Getting Married in HawaiiFacts About Obtaining Your Marriage LicenseBoth the bride and groom must appear PERSONALLY before the marriage license agent. A marriage license must be obtained FIRST before your ceremony is performed. A marriage license is issued during the meeting with your marriage license agent. The marriage license is good for 30 days from and including the date of its issuance, after which it becomes null and void. The license must be used only in the State of Hawai'i. The State fee for a marriage license is $60.00, payable in cash at the time of filing the application. This fee is subject to change. To expedite your marriage license meeting, simply download the Marriage License from the website for the Department of Health located at http://www.hawaii.gov/health/vital-records/pdf/marriagelicense.pdf , print it out on your printer and fill it out. Very important reminders: print with black ink, no abbreviations, and use full legal names. You may then bring this with you at the time of your appointment. You may also obtain a Marriage License packet from the Department of Health. Call the Department of Health at (808) 586-4544 and request a "Marriage License Packet". When you receive the package, please carefully read and follow the directions on the back of the yellow Marriage License Application.
